2 slices of hearty sourdough bread

2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened to room temperature

1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese

1/2 cup roasted hatch green chilies, diced (canned or fresh)

1/4 cup cream cheese, softened

1/4 teaspoon garlic powder

1/4 teaspoon onion powder

Salt and freshly cracked black pepper to taste

Optional: fresh cilantro leaves for garnish

Prepare the Spread: In a small mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, garlic powder, onion powder, and a pinch of salt and freshly cracked black pepper. Use a fork to mix until the ingredients are smooth and well incorporated. Set the cream cheese spread aside.

    Assemble the Sandwich: Lay one slice of sourdough bread on a clean surface. Generously spread the cream cheese mixture over one side of the bread. Sprinkle half of the shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the cream cheese layer. Next, evenly distribute the diced hatch green chilies on top of the cheese, followed by the remaining cheddar cheese.
